FASHION, TEXTILES, LUXURY

Fashion is a form of self-expression and autonomy at a particular period and place and in a specific context, of clothing, footwear, lifestyle, accessories, makeup, hairstyle, and body posture. In its everyday use, the term implies a look that is trending. The term fashion is plagued by its many different uses, and by the unclear application of the concept. For example, the term connotes difference, but also sameness. It signifies the latest distinction, as well as the return of the old. While it may be defined by an insular and esteemed aesthetic elite, who make a look exclusive, this look is often using references from those excluded from making the distinction. Whereas a trend often connotes a peculiar aesthetic expression and often lasting shorter than a season, fashion is a distinctive and industry-supported expression traditionally tied to the fashion season and collections. Style is an expression that lasts over many seasons and is often connected to cultural movements and social markers, symbols, class, and culture (ex. Baroque, Rococo, etc.). Even though the terms are often used together, fashion differs from clothing and costumes — "clothing" describes the material and technical garment; "costume" has come to mean fancy-dress or masquerade wear. "Fashion," by contrast, describes the social and temporal system that "activates" dress as a social signifier in a certain time and context. Haute couture is more aspirational; inspired by art and culture, and in most cases, reserved for the economic elite. Fashion is also a source of art, allowing people to display their unique tastes and styling. Different designers are influenced by outside stimuli and reflect this inspiration in their works. Fashion is unique, self-fulfilling and may be a part of someone's identity. Just like art, fashion does not have to be liked by everyone, it is an expression of one's tastes. Whilst art is usually locked into a drawing, sculpture, picture etc, clothes are a moving form of art; a unique characteristic. The fashion and textile industry is one of the largest industries in the world producing billions of garments every year. Fashion and style differ depending on several factors, including culture and traditions. Nearly every culture and religion has its own style of dress which sets it apart from others. Fashion plays an important role in establishing identity, beliefs and thoughts throughout the world. Fashion also enables people to display personality and personal preferences. It allows people to show off not only dressing style, but provides an opportunity to set trends. Feeling comfortable in certain clothing or fashion pieces also helps to boost confidence and self-esteem, so fashion has a large influence on society in most areas of the world, and trends are usually established through advertising. The fashion market can be delineated into seven separate market levels: Haute Couture, Luxury Fashion, Bridge Brands, Diffusion Lines, High Street, Fast Fashion and Economy. Different types of Fashion Styles include Streetwear Style, Ethnic fashion style, Formal Office Wear, Business Casual. Evening Black Tie, Sports Wear, Girly Style. Rocker Chic Style. Further, the fashion industry consists of four levels: the production of raw materials, principally fibres and textiles but also leather and fur; the production of fashion goods by designers, manufacturers, contractors, and others; retail sales; and various forms of advertising and promotion. Fashion is a way of expression. It is a medium to self-awareness and creative growth. Fashion is a tool to be different, to be unique. Sources- Various, Britannica, Wikipedia ...
